Orkney Folk Festival 2022

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 18 May 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04433

That the Parliament welcomes the Orkney Folk Festival 2022, which will run from 26 to 29 May 2022; understands that the Orkney Folk Festival was first held in 1983 and has since grown to become one of the most popular and special in the world; further understands that the 2022 festival is the first to be held in-person since 2019 after two highly successful virtual festivals helped bring a worldwide online audience to Orkney during the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that over 50 acts from across Scotland will join artists from England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, USA and India in appearing alongside scores of home-grown Orcadian artists; further understands that the festival is again set to attract a global audience for an unmissable event in the folk music calendar, nationally and internationally; believes that the festival has contributed enormously to the promotion of the Orcadian folk music and paved the way for many home-grown artists to make their mark in the world of folk music; commends Orkney Folk Festival's voluntary committee for all their hard work in bringing the much-loved festival back to a full-scale, live in-person event in 2022, and wishes everyone involved, a successful festival, which is full of great entertainment and the creation of more wonderful memories.
