Wishing Maureen Herdman a Happy Retirement

That the Parliament congratulates Maureen Herdman on her recent retirement as a Youth and Family Learning Worker at Orkney Islands Council, after more than 30 years making a difference to the lives of young people throughout Orkney; understands that Maureen, affectionally known to many as "Mo", started as a volunteer at Stromness Youth Club before working with Youth Scotland and latterly Community Learning and Development at Orkney Islands Council; further understands that Maureen has supported a range of organisations over the years, most notably, Police Scotland Youth Volunteers’ Group and Orkney Association of Youth Groups, to deliver a range of programmes with local schools and groups including, Dynamic Youth, First Aid Ready, Confidence to Cook and Hi5 training; understands that Maureen's exemplary youth work was recognised nationally in 2014 as a Queen’s Jubilee baton bearer in the run up to the Commonwealth Games and in 2018 when she was presented with an award by the Lifetime Achievement Fellowship of YouthLink Scotland; believes that Maureen has made an invaluable difference to countless young people over the years and will be hugely missed by the local youth work sector; thanks Maureen for what it sees as her incredible public service, and wishes her all the very best for a long, happy and well-deserved retirement filled of time spent with her family and continued volunteering on behalf of the causes that remain close to her heart.
