Ian Borthwick MBE: A Life of Service

  • Submitted by: Michael Marra, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 03 May 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04201

That the Parliament notes the retirement of Ian Borthwick MBE, Lord Provost of Dundee and who, it understands, is Scotland’s longest-serving Councillor; believes that Mr Borthwick’s election as Lord Provost of Dundee in 2017 was the culmination of decades of public service and dedication to the people of Dundee; recognises that Mr Borthwick was first elected in 1963 to the Dudhope Ward on Dundee Town Council, and quickly moved to his new ward covering Downfield, Kirkton and St Marys, an area for which he has remained the Councillor ever since; understands that his length of service has provided him with invaluable insight and experience that he has always generously shared with colleagues; congratulates him on his retirement, and thanks him and his family, profoundly, for his work for his constituents over many years.
