Kilmarnock Site Selected for 5G Innovation Hub

  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 05 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03929

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that the Scotland 5G Centre is to open a new 5G innovation hub within the HALO Enterprise and Innovation Centre in Kilmarnock; understands that the hub will support economic growth through the deployment and adoption of 5G technology and act as a business enabler to accelerate strategic partnerships and leverage new applications for the technology; recognises what it sees as the transformational potential of the wider deployment of 5G connectivity, especially in rural areas like Ayrshire; considers that the placement of the hub within HALO offers new opportunities to create a centre for tech innovation within Kilmarnock, which, it believes, will build on HALO’s existing approach to be a hub for digital and cyber skills; notes what it sees as the considerable potential opportunities for economic growth offered by 5G, and looks forward to seeing continued expansion of the technology across the country.
