Medical Research in Scotland

  • Submitted by: Michael Marra, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 31 March 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03821

That the Parliament welcomes the report, Medical Research in Scotland by the Fraser of Allander Institute and the British Heart Foundation; understands that charities are a major funder of medical research and development in the country, estimated at £122 million; considers that what it sees as the unprecedented funding challenges being faced, bring insecurity as to the future of these levels of investment; understands that this investment supports more than 7,400 jobs; recognises the findings in the report, which, it understands, show that charity-funded medical research supports more jobs per £1 million spend than many other sectors, and notes the calls for the Scottish Government to do more to support the sector and unleash the innovation, which, it believes, stems from it.
