That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the wide-ranging social and economic benefits offered by the building of new homes of all tenures, as highlighted by Homes for Scotland’s recently-published report, The Social and Economic Benefits of Home Building in Scotland; understands that the cumulative undersupply of housing since the financial crisis is now reportedly approaching 100,000; notes that the study calculates the considerable gain that could have been achieved by increasing completion levels from 22,500 to 25,000, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2019, and that these benefits could have included £52 million of local infrastructure investment, which, it believes, could have been spent on education, health and community facilities, as well as support for over 8,000 jobs, and acknowledges Homes for Scotland’s call for an annual all-tenure housing target of at least 25,000 new homes each year.
