Walking in Memory of Ian Findlay CBE

  • Submitted by: Sarah Boyack, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 03 March 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03415

That the Parliament notes the anniversary of the passing of Ian Findlay CBE, the late CEO of Paths for All; recalls that Ian believed that physical activity and walking are essential for the health and wellbeing of everyone; notes his work with the public, governments, and stakeholders to promote healthy lifestyles and to encourage walking for everyone; remembers that kindness to each other and the planet was central to his leadership, which inspired many to champion active travel and walking; recognises what it sees as the benefits of physical exercise, which also, it believes, helps to reconnect with nature, improve the walking environment, and help to address climate change, and considers that there is no more fitting tribute to his life and work than Paths for All’s encouragement to everyone to take time out to enjoy a walk between 5 and 11 March to remember him.
