Standing Up for the Fire and Rescue Service

  • Submitted by: Carol Mochan, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 18 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02081

That the Parliament condemns reports of recent attacks suffered by firefighters in Scotland, particularly in the run up to Bonfire Night; recognises what it sees as the physical and verbal abuse firefighters can encounter when responding to emergencies, as well as that experienced by operational control firefighters, who handle hundreds of calls daily; considers that such attacks have reduced in recent decades largely because of the increased presence of firefighters in local communities; believes, however, that any instances of such attacks must be dealt with decisively, and fully supports the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Fire Brigades Union in their efforts to raise awareness and stop these attacks.
