The national minimum school clothing grant is £120 per annum for primary pupils, and £150 for secondary pupils.

The Scottish Government has increased funding for local authorities to £13.9 million in the 2024-25 financial year. This includes an inflationary uplift of £0.9 million on the previous year’s funding. The purpose of this increase is to support local authorities to manage increases to the minimum amounts of school clothing grant paid to eligible families in the 2024-25 academic year.

It is for local authorities to determine their own eligibility criteria for school clothing grant and they also have the option to set their school clothing grant levels higher than the minimum if they wish to do so.

Decisions about funding to local authorities in respect of the school clothing grant in future financial years will be through the Budget process in the usual way.

The Scottish Government has not carried out an overarching assessment of the typical environmental remediation costs for sites of former steelworks in Scotland.

Tata Steel, Liberty House and the Scottish Government were all aligned in agreeing a transaction that secured the earliest realisation of the commercial and wider economic benefits of the deal, and the selected structure was the best available means to deliver this.

The Scottish Government is not involved in the training of judicial office holders. Part 2 of the Judiciary and Courts (Scotland) Act 2008 sets out that the Lord President is responsible for making and maintaining appropriate arrangements for the welfare, training and guidance of judicial office holders. This ensures that training is free from political interference and is essential to preserve the independence of the legal system. The Lord President delegates responsibility for the delivery of judicial training to the Judicial Institute of Scotland. There are no plans to develop an updated homelessness action plan. There is widespread support for Scotland’s long term plan for housing set out in Housing to 2040, and collective agreement that the Ending Homelessness Together action plan is the right long term strategy to tackle homelessness in Scotland. An annual report on progress towards ending homelessness is shared with the Scottish Parliament each autumn.

The Scottish Government recognises these are exceptionally challenging times, which is why we declared a national housing emergency on 15 May 2024. I will make a statement to parliament on the Scottish Government’s response to the housing emergency on Thursday 20 June. This is the starting point of the work that we see is needed to agree priorities and identify actions we can take that will have the greatest impact and help those most in need.

Partnership working at all levels – UK Government, Scottish Government and local government – as well as with our housing sector partners is needed to deliver a housing system that meets the needs of the people of Scotland. We will build on the solid foundations of the work already underway and continue taking forward action in response to the recommendations made by the Homelessness Prevention and Strategy Group's task and finish groups on key homelessness issues. We will continue to do everything we can within devolved powers to address levels of homelessness and improve the supply of social and affordable housing.

Since June 2022, Scottish Government officials have met with Tata Steel UK on 23 June 2022 and 5 December 2022 regarding the sale of the Dalzell steelworks in 2016. No meetings have been held with Liberty Steel on this topic during the last two years.

Liberty Steel Dalzell continues to trade. At the time of the deal, in 2016, a parent company guarantee was signed with Liberty House, which meant that, if the part of the company at Liberty Steel Dalzell ceased to exist, the liabilities would pass to the wider group.

The current capital balance owed to Scottish Enterprise remains at £7 million and Scottish Enterprise remains in negotiation with the company over repayment. In the interim, the company is meeting the current interest repayments due on the loan.

The Scottish Government owning the Steelworks for a short period of time enabled all parties to achieve what they required from the sale and purchase of the business. The Scottish Government in doing so, supported the recommencement of steel production in Scotland and protected the livelihood of families across the Lanarkshire steel communities.
